Handing a CD to someone is the most effective way to get your message listened to.
When you hand a CD to someone, there are certain things you should do and not do to improve the effectiveness of the transaction:
- Make sure your name and phone number is written with a sharpie on the CD.
- Make sure you have their name and phone number for the follow up.
- Create curiosity in the material - Don't explain it! If they ask you to just tell them about the information on the CD - don't! Ask if they have 45 minutes right now? If they ask why, tell them that's how long it will take me to review what's on the CD. Rarely does anyone say yes. Keep them curious and just tell them it's something that has really piqued your interest and you sincerely believe they will be impressed with it as well.
- Paint a picture for them about how or where they will listen to the CD. For example, ask them to listen to it on their drive home tonight.
- Always set up a time for step 2 of the process - follow up. You establish the day and time, and make sure you follow through - don't let them establish the time. It's important to follow up within 24 hours of them listening to the CD.
